Kickin it with Orlando Predators' kicker and new NCS Associate Mark Lewis

NCS: Tell us about your kicking business.

I turn kickers into offensive weapons. I realized that the onside kick is a game changer and a way to separate yourself from the pack. Everybody can kick a ball 50+ yds but not everybody can get you the ball back.  I will open up your eyes to a whole new world of kicking. Not only am I one of the most accurate kickers in the history of the Arena Football League, but I'm known as the best in the business when it comes to the onside kick. Mark Lewis Kicking is out of Central Florida and I will take your kicking knowledge to the next level. I have 11 years of kicking professionally on 9 foot wide and 15 foot high up rights.

NCS: Why did you join the National Camp Series and why do you feel it is valuable?

I joined NCS b/c I wanted to get my kickers in Central Florida national exposure. I like the coaching staff and like that we as a TEAM work together across the country getting our kickers to the next level on and off the field.

NCS: What are your thoughts on the Kicking Index? What is your feeling about objective rankings versus subjective rankings?

It’s a great way to rank yourself against kickers across the country and great way to get noticed by college coaches.  I like the objective rankings b/c everybody is measured on the same scale.

NCS: What was your high school kicking experience like?

Awesome…I only played my senior year but certain things in life you'll never forget and playing high school football was one of them for me.

NCS: What was the kicking scene like when you were in high school? Where there a lot of camps to attend?

When I was coming up in high school, there were no kicking camps around that I knew of.  At practice the coach handed me a bag of balls and said “Lewis, it goes over the cross bar and through the posts.”

NCS: What was your college kicking experience like?

I did not play college football.  I played college soccer at FIU and UNCC.

NCS: Did you pursue kicking at the Pro Level? If so, how was that experience?

Yes, I still do.  I've been kicking in the AFL for 11 years... the last 4 years with the Orlando Predators.  I LOVE IT….especially playing for your hometown team.

NCS: When and why did you become a kicking coach?

About 3 years ago, I started at my high school helping out the kickers/punters. Absolutely loved it.  Last year I worked with 5 different high schools in Central Florida. I found out that I had a real passion for teaching kickers and wanted to do it on a national scale.

NCS: What is the most rewarding aspect of being a kicking coach?

Seeing it all come together… putting in the work on the practice field and then seeing my kicker come through when the game is on the line.

NCS: What is the most frustrating aspect of being a kicking coach?

Seeing kids quit or give up on their dreams b/c they face a little failure in the beginning.

NCS: If there is one thing that you could tell aspiring kickers, punters and long snappers out there, what would it be?

Follow your dreams and aspirations and to never quit!
