NCS Dallas Championship Camp More than Just a Camp

This past Sunday, I traveled to Dallas with retired NFL punter Darren Bennett to conduct our second NCS Championship Kicking Camp.  This full day camp included an official NCS Evaluation utilizing our Kicking Index, professional kicking, punting and long snapping instruction and finished with a last man standing competition.

Along with Darren Bennett and myself, two other top coaches at the camp were KICKNATION's Chris Shaw and Aaron King.  Chris Shaw is the top kicking/punting coach in Texas and Aaron King is the top long snapping coach in Texas.  Aaron went to the NFL Combine his senior year out of UTEP and also snapped in the UFL.  Again, what we liked about this camp was that it was intimate.  We weren't going out to gather as many people as possible, rather, we wanted to be able to conduct a camp where we were able to effectively work with each camper.

However, what was great about traveling to Dallas last weekend was the opportunity to meet William Jack McBriar.  The son of NFL punter Mat McBriar.  Little Will is just two months old.  Having Darren Bennett travel with me to Dallas was great, because Darren is the main reason why Mat is over here in the States and punting in the NFL.  It was great to see all three of them together.  Who knows, maybe we'll see little Will punting the pigskin down the road.

On Saturday morning, Darren and I went to downtown Dallas and visited the Grassy Knoll.  It was very strange to see the place where JFK was shot.

At the book depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald was position when he opened fired on Kennedy is now a museum.  Darren and I went inside to check it out.  They had a very impressive audio tour that describes the era, 1960s and the events leading up to Kennedy's assassination.  It's a shame that Kennedy was killed, I feel that he understood the youth culture of the times and would have been a very important president for the world.  Unfortunately, others did as well and felt that he needed to be removed.

On Sunday, the NCS Dallas Championship Camp began.  As with Atlanta, I was impressed with some of the talent level at this camp.

One of the most impressive kickers at this camp was Clayton Hatfield, class of 2014.  This was Clayton's second NCS event this season.  Clayton is a
